Derby Local Guide

Getting to know Derby

The practical bits, sorted. Parking, trains, hospitals, venues and the questions guests ask us most.

Parking

Derby is an easy city to drive into, with multi-storey car parks around the city centre and pay-and-display on many central streets during the day.

  • Check your property listing first — some of our homes include parking, others are close to public car parks.
  • City centre car parks and most on-street bays accept payment by app.
  • Large employers such as Rolls-Royce and Royal Derby Hospital run their own on-site parking — check arrangements with your host team.

Getting around

Derby sits right in the middle of the country, which makes getting in and out refreshingly simple.

By train

Derby station is on the Midland Main Line, with direct services to London St Pancras, Birmingham, Sheffield, Nottingham and beyond.

By bus

A frequent local bus network runs from Derby Bus Station across the city and out to nearby towns.

By air

East Midlands Airport is a short drive south of the city.

By road

The A38, A52 and A50 link Derby to the M1 and the wider motorway network.
